Broken Monsters

broken monstersToday’s review is over at Strange Horizons again! I read Lauren Beukes’s Broken Monsterswhich came out in September, and loved every spooky, chilling, witty moment of it.

For folks who saw my I-almost-really-liked-this review of Zoo CityBeukes’s 2010 novel about Johannesburg, criminality, and guilt, allow me to assure you that all the quirks of pacing and characterization are figured out in Broken Monsters. It’s a sleek thriller set in Detroit, with a compelling cast and a serial killer that kind of makes you want to crawl out of your skin.

Read it.
